映画ブルージャスミンで英語の勉強。

ビジネス英語を中心に勉強してきたけど、たまには日常英会話、とくに人物評とか感情とかを表す言葉や自然な言い回しを知りたい気分だったので、すごく勉強になったわ！

 

ネイティブの国に住んでいるわけじゃないので、俗語を自分が使うことはないけど、映画を見たりネイティブ同士の会話を理解したりするのに、ある程度は解ってたいしねー。

*難しい決断だ。

「call」は他にも「電話する」という意味もありますが、「決断」という名詞としても使います。例えば「It's your call.（あなたが決めることだ）」、「It's not my call.（私が決めることじゃない）」など。

*get around = 様々なところへ行く、動き回る→社交家→play girl（アメリカのスラング）となるようです。

*bugには虫という意味以外に、盗聴器という意味もあり、buggedだと盗聴する、盗聴器をとりつける、という意味に。（虫を駆除する、いらだたせる、精神鑑定する、等の意味もある）

* 成句：「臨終の名言集」という意味だが、皮肉として用いられ、「いやいやそんなことねーだろ」「それはどうかな」的な感じで使われるらしい。

いつもそうよ。

この場合のeasyは、そのまんな「簡単な女」っていう意味で、英語も日本語も同じみたい。

Someone is waiting us.

「誰かが待っている」という意味ではなく「人を待たせてる」という風に使うんだよね、と改めて確信。

別に誰かわからないからsomeoneを使っているわけではなくて、あくまで「人を待たせている」ということに重点があって、誰が待っているかは問題じゃないので、固有名詞ではなくて、あえてsomeoneを使うというやり方。
